Only with larger amounts of ammonia do schildmossen and takmossen disappear. As shown in the picture they can be found together. Ammonia loving Poedergeelkorst (on the right) and Heksenvingermos (in the middle) and the species that dissapear: Melig takmos (on the left) are holding on to the same substrate but prefer different condition determined by factors such as humidity, sunlight and wind.

In a clean environment, with little ammonia in the air, both schildmosachtigen and takmossen and even rendiermosachtigen can be spotted. In the image above you can see Fijn bekermos (on the left) Boschildmos (in the middle) and Melig takmos (on the right)
